jobs: | The speaker’s mother said that witches existed. They used to visit a house in Arizkun every night entering down the chimney. The wife waited for them by the hearth and cooked a pan of bacon for them to eat. When they had all had sufficient, they went away up the chimney. The embers of the household got fed up with giving them bacon and the husband felt sorry for his wife. One night, the husband waited up by the hearth dressed as a woman and cooked the bacon. When the witches started to appear down the chimney, he threw the pan at their rear ends and they did not come back again. After that, they were said to appear on horseback on the roads. |
